Subject: Tuesday Evensong

Patrick,

Many thanks to you and the Jr. Choristers for Evensong last night. As you know, the Board of Trustees of the Church Pension Group was in the congregation. This is a group of Episcopalians from around the country that includes bishops, priests, and lay leaders who oversee the church’s lay and clergy pension plans. They have five meetings per year, and when in NYC they like to worship at a local church when an available service coincides with their schedule. As it turned out, our Tuesday Evensong fit the bill, so they contacted me about a week ago to let me know they’d be coming.

Stacie and I were invited to join them for dinner after Evensong, and we heard again and again how delighted everyone was with the experience. Everything from the choristers themselves, to the new organ, to the restored sections of the church, to the two hymns you chose was just right. Some had arrived as early as 5 pm and enjoyed watching you rehearse the choristers. Many were amazed that we do this every week. As I’ve mentioned before, it is the mark of a great city church that on an otherwise nondescript day, people can semi-wander in and find and experience of beauty, quality, and spirituality. It was a very good showing for Grace Church last night, and the real measure for us is, we didn’t do anything different from what we normally do. Well done.

Please convey my gratitude and congratulations to the Jr. Choristers and their families.

Don
