Adopt a Pipe
…And Help Build The Bicentennial Organ
From the founding of Grace Church in 1808 and still today, great sacred music has been central to how we worship God. Through all these years a series of pipe organs has provided the backbone for our choral programs and hymn singing. The most recent pipe organ, installed by the Herman Schlicker Organ Co., Inc. in 1965, was a daring attempt to achieve a certain musical style, using experimental materials and the latest technology of the day. Sadly, these goals were only partially achieved. Neither the materials nor the technology proved worthy for the long haul, and the instrument was unable to exploit the unique acoustical properties of Grace Church. Therefore, the Vestry of Grace Church has commissioned the firm Taylor and Boody of Stanton, Virginia to create for Grace Church a new pipe organ celebrating the Bicentennial of the Parish using the time honored methods of the craft that have allowed the life spans of organs in Europe to be measured in centuries, not decades. The new Grace Church Organ, costing approximately $3 million, will be ready for installation sometime mid 2012.
We believe that the glorious architecture and strategic location of Grace Church warrant the expense, but we cannot go forward without your help. Grace Church needs you to ADOPT A PIPE! What better way to honor the people you love than by naming a pipe after them? You can also purchase a pipe to memorialize departed family members and friends. This gift idea, which will make them and you a part of Grace Church for generations to come, is perfect for Christmas, Easter, graduations, weddings, baptisms, and any other holiday you wish to celebrate. A beautiful parchment certificate of recognition, suitable for framing, will be inscribed with the name of the person you choose to honor and the “adopted” pipe. You may select from any donor level listed below. Patrick Allen, Organist and Master of Choristers, will be happy to answer questions regarding the various pipes. You may contact him by using our contact page.
Your gift, large or small, will help bring to Grace Church an instrument for the ages that is destined to become one of the great organs in America.
