CHORISTER RECOGNITION 9 JUNE 2024

This year the choirs celebrate our 129th season of musical offerings and we are off on a Mission Trip, a choir concert tour that will take us to Austria and the Czech Republic.

A week from today the choir will sing Mass in the Cathedral of Salzburg, the church where Mozart grew up and played in the orchestra for services. They will sing in the little church outside Salzburg where Silent Night was written and was first heard, and offer there a short program of music in German. Down the road we will sing in the great Abby Church of St. Florian, built in a high baroque style, Anton Bruckner was organist there.
We then arrive in Prague and sing a concert in the beautiful church of St. Nicholas in the Old Town, Mozart played the organ there. We will sing a program at Terezin Concentration camp outside of Prague. A Nazi Concentration Camp that held many children. Perhaps you have seen the collection of artwork and poetry by those children called “I never saw another butterfly.” A haunting and very moving place. Our final offering will take place at the Anglican Church of Saint Clement in Prague. It’s an exciting week of sharing music and fellowship in many cultures, languages and communities. The repertoire is drawn from the music that is part of our Sunday morning offerings here at Grace, all offerings will be acapella.

The choir parents have been hard at work raising funds and preparing the tour. I’d like to ask all who were part of this, especially Sunshine Gola, Rebecca Dixon and James Gomez to stand and receive our gratitude. The Choir Special Projects Fund that many of you have donated to so generously, along with the monies from participating families pays for the majority of the expense of the tour. We have to thank, Don, Julia, James, our Vestry, and the entire parish along with the staff for your support and care without which this undertaking wouldn’t be possible.
This is the eighth such tour by the choir over the past twenty years. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers while the choir is traveling between 13 and 21 June.

Please hold your show of gratitude until I finish acknowledging them.

Officiant: Let us pray.

For Education

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom: Enlighten by your Holy Spirit those who teach and those who learn, that, rejoicing in the knowledge of your truth, they may worship you and serve you from generation to generation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For Musicians

O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven, be ever present with your servants who seek through music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; and grant them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
