The Dom in Salzburg, Austria has extended an invitation for the Choir of Men and Boys and The Girls’ Choir to sing Mass in the Cathedral in June of 2012! If we accept the choirs will offer Mozart’s “Spatzenmesse” or “Sparrow Mass,” the Missa brevis in C Major, KV 220 with the orchestra of the Cathedral. We will begin preparing it in September for our Spring Concert and if we decide to accept the invitation, offer it again in Salzburg at the Cathedral where Mozart’s patron, The Prince Bishop of Salzburg had his seat. The foundations of the Dom go back before 700 AD and the current Baroque building was completed in the 17th century!
For Summer Listening:
Senior Chorister Families, please find a recording of the Spatzenmesse and one of the Faure Requiem and listen to them over the summer. This will help you prepare to work on these great compositions in September.
There are also URL addresses in the Media section of our area to a website that has practice parts for both works should anyone want to get a head start for the fall.
