Eddie Zheng, a native of New York City, is an MM and recently graduated BM student of Paul Jacobs at the Juilliard School. His goal of promoting the masterworks of the organ to broader audiences around the world has led to performances in cities throughout North America – New York (St. Patrick’s Cathedral), Philadelphia (Longwood Gardens), New Haven, Eugene, and Montreal – and overseas, where he has performed to young Chinese audiences, many of whom heard the organ for the first time at his recitals at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Beijing Concert Hall, and Beijing Golden Sail Concert Hall.
With a focus on lyrical phrasing and articulate touch combined with thoughtful programming and spoken notes, Eddie’s performances at the 2018 Albert Schweitzer Organ Competition and the 2019 AGO Quimby Northeast Regional Competition granted him first place awards, concert opportunities, and his engagement as Artist-in-Residence at the Saint Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church in New York. Recently also appointed as the Organ Associate at First Presbyterian Church Greenwich in Connecticut, Eddie seeks to encourage wider musical appreciation through service playing and youth involvement.
Prior to his undergraduate studies at Juilliard, Eddie attended the school’s Pre-College division for two years, studying with Matthew Lewis. Other instructors important to Eddie’s career as a concert organist include Peter Richard Conte, Alcée Chriss III, Nathan Laube, Philippe Lefebvre, Alan Morrison, and Thomas Murray, among others.
Having spent many summers in the Catskills region of New York, Eddie created the ‘Organ Music in the Catskills’ series in 2021 (now on its fourth planned concert), partnering with historic churches to host recitals featuring the organ and other instruments to enthusiastic local audiences.
Always seeking collaborative activities involving organ and broader forms of music, Eddie most recently worked with fashion designer WILLY CHAVARRIA to perform organ music during their 2022 New York Fashion Week show. Eddie has also maintained a career in the music production world, collaborating with hip hop and jazz artists on innovative compositions and working in studio settings on recording and mixing. When not playing organ, Eddie loves motorcycles, symphonies, and brewing espresso.
